Epsom

Epsom is located in the Boroughs of Epsom and Ewell of Surrey in England. It is about 22 kilometers (14 miles) south of Central London. It is believed that the name of the town, Ebesham, was derived from a Saxon owner. The first evidence of human settlement dates back to the mid-Bronze Age. However, the modern settlement grew in the area around St Martin's Church during the 6th and 7th centuries. The clock tower that was built in 1847 dominates the High Street today.

Epsom, like other nearby settlements is located at the springline where permeable Chalk from the North Downs meet the impermeable London Clay. In the town, several tributaries to the Hogsmill River flow. The spring at Epsom Common is also believed to be healing in the 17th century.
