Epsom is located in the Boroughs of Epsom and Ewell of Surrey in England. It is about 22 kilometers (14 miles) south of Central London. It is believed that the name of the town, Ebesham, was derived from a Saxon owner. The first evidence of human settlement dates back to the mid-Bronze Age. However, the modern settlement grew in the area around St Martin's Church during the 6th and 7th centuries. The clock tower that was built in 1847 dominates the High Street today.
Epsom, like other nearby settlements is located at the springline where permeable Chalk from the North Downs meet the impermeable London Clay. In the town, several tributaries to the Hogsmill River flow. The spring at Epsom Common is also believed to be healing in the 17th century.
Sutton is the main town of the London Borough Sutton located in South London. The Outer London Borough is located on the lower slopes of the North Downs. It is located 10 miles (16km) south-southwest of Charing Cross. London Plan has 13 metropolitan centres. In the 2011 census, the population of the town totalled 41,483, while the entire borough counted 204,525.
Sutton is home to the largest library in the borough. It also has four conservation zones, as well as several works of public art. It is the home of several international companies, and it is also London's sixth-most important shopping district. The area centers on Sutton High Street. Sutton Railway Station has the largest station in the borough and offers frequent trains to central London, as well as other destinations including Horsham.
